Moses Lake golfer goes 9-under on front nine, 5-over on back side to take 36-hole medal play title Sole survivor players gather on the first green to mark their balls. Bill Boggs of Moses Lake was still standing after five holes. Mark Grigg Mark Grigg of Moses Lake made the only 6 on his card on his final hole but still ran away from the field to win the 36-hole Round-Up City Amateur played at Pendleton Country Club. Golfers came from across the Northwest. Of course, the all-time winningest RUCA champ, Brad Christianson, came from Oklahoma. (Christianson ended up tied for fifth gross in the first flight.) PCC member Shaner Applegate won low net for the field with a two-day total of 133. The next best finish by a local golfer was Greg Roland Jr.’s tie for third in the first flight. Grigg played the front side nineunder par over the two days, shooting 31 in spectacular weather on Sunday. Starting on number 12, Grigg made the turn one-over-par then went on a tear with five birdies in six holes. He parred number 10 and then “played to take double bogey out” on the par-5 dog-leg left umber 11. “I knew where I was and decided to play two irons and pitching wedge. It was a tough shot out of the rough and I missed an eight footer. It was the only 6 I had all weekend,” Grigg said. Greg Corn, a past winner who finished third in the first flight, played with Grigg on the final day. “Mark controlled his game and made putts when he needed to. He hit the ball better than everybody I saw,” Corn said. Grigg, who was “making everything inside 10 feet,” said the course benefitted the straight hitter. On Sunday he hit 13 fairways and had birdie putts on 15 of the 18 holes. “I thought the course was in excellent shape,” Grigg said. “The greens were a little umpy but if you got it on line the putt wasn’t affected. The rough was tough, especially around the greens. It was very tricky; you didn’t know what it would do coming out, but all in all the course was fantastic.”

The sole survivor was exciting as usual with Bill Boggs of Walla Walla outlasting the 10 players with the best first-day totals.
