Reggie Brown Memorial Tournament
F-Troop Rides Again

A foursome claiming membership in the golf crew affectionately known as F-Troop won the Reggie Brown Memorial Tournament at Pendleton Country Club March 18 and 19.
More than 100 golfers competed in the 11th annual tournament, which features a best ball format on Saturday and a scramble on Sunday.
An auction held each year in conjunction with the tournament raised some $7,400 for Pendleton High School golf teams. Since its inception in 1995, the tournament and auction have raised more than $40,000 for PHS golf programs. Products and services for the auction were donated this year by more than 100 businesses from throughout the Northwest.
Each year, $3,500 from the tournament proceeds go to the golf teams, which use the money for equipment and travel expenses.
Funds in excess of the $3,500 go into a scholarship fund to assist PHS golfers with college expenses. Former Buck golfers, Kaydie Cresswell and Scott Brown are attending college with scholarship help from the tournament.
The foursome of Cal Tyer, Ed Pugh, Jeff Rinehart and Gary Dillavou set the pace in the first day best ball format and played well enough in Sunday's scramble to earn first place overall.
Although they didn't have the best score in either Saturday or Sunday competition, the team of Andy Munsey, Bob Oleen, Dan Leighty and John Groupe took the tournament's overall net title.
Greg and Darlene Smith, former Pendleton residents now living in Hammond, Ore., once again coordinated the tournament, which is named after Brown, a popular PCC member and manager of Cascade Natural Gas, who died in 1994.

A total of 27 two-golfer teams competed in the April 30-31 contest.
Herman and Warner combined for 18-hole scores of 66 and 69 for a 135 total to win low gross in the first flight. Net winners in that flight were Ed Pugh and Jeff Rinehart, who had a two-day total of 120.

Round-Up City Am
Levi Herman, playing on the first two days of the three-day 36-hole Round-Up City Amateur, set the mark as the leader in the clubhouse and waited for somebody to come after him.
Nobody did and Herman, with a second-day 69 the only sub-par round of the tournament cruised to a four-stroke victory for his second RUCA title in as many years.
Five other golfers had better opening rounds than Herman's 74, but nobody could match his three-under-par 69, which, incredibly, included a half dozen three putts.
I was behind trees all day, Herman said about his first day. It was the worst round I've shot in three weeks.
In fact, five days before the RUCA, Herman shot 64 to tie the course record and had carded only scores in the 60s for the prior two weeks.
His second round likely could have chased the record again had he been able to hole some putts.
I hit the ball well, Herman said. I rarely missed a fairway; one or two, that's it.
Andrew Hack Solina's even-par 72 was the best opening round of the tournament, but the young man from xxxx had to settle for second gross in the first flight behind perennial contender Gregg Corn of Walla Walla, who put together rounds of 73 and 74 to finish four back of Herman.
Eric Snively, a 10-handicapper, turned in rounds of 75-74 to run away with low net for the field with an 18-hole total of 129, three strokes better than JR Warnock, who won low net in the fifth flight.
Greg Roland Jr. won the sole survivor in a battle of relative youngsters ahead of Solina and Travis Graybeal. On the last of five holes, Roland hit his drive into the short rough on the left side while Solina pushed his tee shot into the 10th fairway. His approach hit trees and rolled backwards right of the putting surface.
Roland's wedge shot looked to be short right but stayed up. He chipped to within about 8 feet while Solina's third shot from under the tree limbs left him with a 35-foot downhill putt. Solina's first effort rolled past the hole by 7 feet, setting up Roland, who canned his par putt for his first sole survivor victory.
The biggest winner of all was Greg Grant from Heppner, who, with one swing of the golf club, aced the par-three 15th hole to win a cruise and the tournament's only skin, worth nearly $1,700.
A total of 192 golfers competed in five divisions for gross and net awards with 69 golfers more than a third of the field earning pro shop money.

3 Club/3 Par Tournament

Four different partners, four wins in a row for Jeff Rinehart, who showed up late on the second day, but obviously in time to take the title with Gary Dillavou in the 3 Club/3 Par tournament at Pendleton Country Club Oct. 21 and 22.
Since 2003, Rinehart has teamed with Rick Bordenkircher, Doug Doyle and Russ Herman to win the fun tournament, which this year drew 26 two-person teams.
Rinehart and Dillavou shot even par 72 on the first day, when golfers played the course with three clubs and a putter. They were one shot back of the leaders, Gary Graybeal and Kevin Hegeman and two shots up on Doug Doyle and Levi Herman.
Dillavou started the second day on his own, but Rinehart eventually arrived and the pair combined for the day's low score, a six-over-par 60, on a crazy course of 19 par-3 holes that included a 250-yarder and a 185-yard shot from a plastic-mat tee on the back of a flatbed truck. Over and over shots had to be made to pins tucked tight behind bunkers.
